A Heart for Comforting those with Autism

Karthy has a heart for Autism Karthy has a heart for comforting those families that have been affected by autism. Much attention is given to how this once rare disorder has become commonplace. Recent studies show autism is now associated with 1 in every 110 children born (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). However, Karthy doesn't focus on the statistics... she focuses on the people. She knows she was built by Doctor Krakowitz for relationships. She isn't a scientist who can find the cure. But, she can do something just as important. She can help those families who daily embrace a loved family member who is autistic.

One of the ways Karthy has learned she can be of the greatest help to families impacted by autism is giving them her time in ways they need it. Time to comfort or play with the autistic person. Karthy gives her time to help with household chores that may otherwise be impossible to complete for a family caring at the same time for someone with autism.

When she plays with autistic friends she does whatever they like to do, and on their terms. If they like to stack cans of food and line them down the hall; Karthy does it with them. If they like the room dim and quiet when they play, Karthy plays quietly near them. Comforting those with autism is all about finding what each specific person likes to do. We can talk to our autistic friend's parents, or caregivers, and ask them how you can play, or spend time with your new friend. It only takes a little extra effort. We can make our friend feel better and enjoy ourselves too, just by taking the time to learn how.

Sometimes Karthy teams up with other bots from the Kauzbots krew and the people at Doctor Krakowitz's factory to help the parents of autistic children. These parents often don't have a moment to do simple things like getting a hair cut, going to the doctor, or visiting a friend they haven't seen in months. Often they can't get the time to buy groceries, get new tires on the car, or do the laundry. Helping them find time or doing a chore for them can bring a big smile and joy to others. Karthy has even known the simple act of letting a single mom with an autistic child find time to take to go for a short walk by herself to reflect on life, pray or listen to her favorite songs without having to worry about being a caregiver can bring tears of joy, and a whole different perspective to life.

Karthy knows the statistics, she knows that 730,000 children have autism in the US (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and million throughout the world. She knows that autism is a disorder that affects young children and stays with them throughout their life. She educates her friends who think autism is somehow contagious, which it definitely isn't. She is troubled that there is no known definitive cause, but is glad that teams of people like Doctor Krakowitz are working hard to discover the reason for autism and cure autism. Most of all Karthy knows she can change the world by just spending time with her new friends and helping their families.
